What started off as a funny idea for a gift quickly turned into a full fledged mini project when I realized how tedious making a custom music box would be. However, I was determined to bring my favorite song to life. Why settle for "11 Edelweiss" when you can have "All Star?"
After transposing the tune of my favorite part of the song, I counted the beats per revolution of the music box cylinder and calculated the change in angle between each quarter, eight, and sixteenth note.

I measured the dimensions of each tooth on the music box comb, and created vertical planes as landmarks for where to place each note.
Many, many, many construction planes later, I had an STL ready for printing!

Due to the numerous <1mm features on this part, the low resolution Ultimaker 3 was not a viable option.

The final product was printed using SLA through Duke Bluesmith.
